generation smartphone.

Smartphones are omnipresent in our everyday lives: on the street, on the bus, on the train, in the car, at work, at school, at home, in front of the TV, at the dining table, in bed ... we stare at the small square device everywhere we go. Across all generations, cultures and social classes, we seem to be at the mercy of this thing. - And that connects us.

In street photography, we photographers often complain that it is hardly possible to photograph street scenes where people are not staring at their cell phones. - And that also connects us.

With the "Generation Smartphone" series, I am attempting a change of perspective by making the smartphone and its users a very specific topic, focusing on the de facto omnipresence of the smartphone and depicting it in as many different and ever-changing situations and scenes as possible.

I am expressly not interested in superficial concern activism. Nothing could be further from my mind, as I am part of the smartphone generation myself.

With this series, I simply want to tell stories of our everyday lives, to depict a piece of our reality, sometimes funny, sometimes thoughtful, sometimes elegant, perhaps sad and even tender, definitely intergenerational and not infrequently misleading and definitely manipulative.

I photograph what I see, how I see it. And of course I have my own thoughts about it. But they are my thoughts and I don't force them on anyone. They are mine. What you want to see in the pictures is entirely up to you and also belongs to you. - And that also connects us.
